Keel, stem and sternpost/

Most kits have veneer for the second layer of planking, because it is easy to work with and can be glued with quick-setting glues, such as all-purpose (rubber cement) glue. In this case, you must first install all parts of the keel, stem and sternpost, and then fit the second layer of planking. Veneer planks do not require heavy sanding. But if the second layer is made from heavier planking stock, it is preferable to dry-fit the parts of backbone without gluing them. It is very convenient to be able to remove them for finish sanding.

3-1 To facilitate the further work and avoid the contact of iron nails with glue which may cause rust to form:
- If a first layer of planking was not absent or no nails were used, then go to the next step;
- Remove all nails with pliers or side cutters.
3-1 Щоб полегшити подальший процес робіт та уникнути можливого утворення іржі від контакту металевих цвяхів з клеєм - їх кще видалити:
- Якщо чорнова бшивка непередбачена або влаштована без застосування цвяхів переходьте до наступного пункту;
- Видаліть усі цвяхи за допомогою кусачок або бокорізів.
3-2 Sanding of the first layer of planking:
- If there is only a single layer of planking, go to the next step;
- The hull has to be sanded to perfection. This is especially important if the second layer of planking will be made of veneer.
3-2 Шліфування першого шару обшивки:
- Якщо чорнова бшивка не передбачена, переходьте до наступного пункту;
- Добре відшліфувати корпус до ідеальної поверхні. Це особливо важливо, якщо бругий шар обшивки буде виконуватись зі шпону.

3-3 Very often after the first layer of planking, the hull remains unfair. This can be corrected with all-purpose putty:
- If the hull has an ideal surface or it is to have single layer of planking, go to the next step;
- Apply the putty and do the final sanding of the hull.
3-3 Дуже часто після влаштування чорнової обшивки, корпус все ще має деякі незначні нерівності, які можна випрвити за допомогою двокомпонентної шпаклівки:
- Якщо корпус має ідеальну поверхню або чорнова обшивка не передбачена проектом, переходьте до наступного пункту;

Advise/Порада: It is better to choose a two-component (All purpouse) putty because the wood filler can peel off together with the second layer of planks./Шпаклівку краще обрати двокомпонентну бо та що по дереву має властивість відлущуватися разом з другим шаром обшивки.
3-4 Preparation of all parts of the keel, stem and sternpost for installation:
- If all these parts have already been installed, go to the next step;
- Choose between the following methods of making these parts:
3-4-1 Laser cut parts:
- Carefully cut out all parts from the plate and remove all burrs;
- Sand the dark brown burning from the laser cutting from all edge. It will open the texture of the wood, which will make the model more realistic.
3-4-2 It is necessary to make independently from the strips and timber provided in a kit:
- Cut out all parts of the keel, stem and sternpost and fit all joints tightly.
3-4 Підготовка всіх частин кіля, форштевня та ахтерштевня до встановлення:
- Якщо всі ці детілі вже є частиною корпусу, переходьте до наступного кроку;
- Виберіть один з типів виготовлення цих частин:
3-4-1 Нарізані лазером заготовки:
- Обережно виріжте всі деталі з пластини та видаліть всі заусенці;
- Зішліфувуйте з усіх торців темнокоричневий наліт після лазерного різання, це відкриє текстуру дерева, що зробить модель більш реалістичною.
3-4-2 Необхідно виготовити самостійно з наданих в комплекті заготовок:
- Виріжте всі частини кіля, форштевля та ахтерштевня та щільно підженіть усі з'єднання.
Advise/Порада: If the keel parts are made of plywood, then the edges of the parts can be covered with a thin veneer to simulate solid wood./Якщо деталі кіля виготовлені з фанери, тоді торці деталей можна обклеїти тонким шпоном, щоб зімітувати масив дерева.
3-5 Fitting keel, stem and sternpost to the model:
- If all these parts are already mounted to the hull, go to the next step;
- Sand all the parts of the keel, stem and sternpost and put them aside for now;
- If the kit has additional elements associated with these parts, then it is time to install them in place as well (for example the stern counter).
3-5 Підгонка кіля, форштевня та ахтерштевня на модель:
- Якщо всі ці детілі вже є частиною корпусу, переходьте до наступного пуного пункту;
- Притріть всі деталі кіля, форштевня та ахтерштевня та відкладіть їх поки що в бік;
- Якщо комплект має додаткові елементи що пов'язані з цими деталями, тоді саме час встановити їх на місце також (наприклід як кормовий підзор).
* If the design allows - do not glue all this parts of the keel, stem and stern post on this stage.
* Якщо конструктив дозволяє - не приклеюйте деталі кіля, форштевня та ахтерштевня на цьому епі.
